SUBJECT: Force Elementary Policy for Cellphones and Other Devices

August 3, 2026

Dear Force Elementary Families,

Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, Denver Public Schools has adopted a policy that limits when students can use their personal communication devices (such as cellphones). This will minimize distractions in the classroom and support focus and learning.

A “personal communication device” (PCD) is, but is not limited to:

  • Cellphones.

  • Smart or electronic watches.

  • Wireless earbuds and earphones.

  • Personally owned tablets and laptops.

  • Non-district issued computing devices.

  • Any other personally owned portable electronic communication devices.

When PCDs are accessible during the school day, it creates distraction that impacts the learning environment for both students and staff. For more information on why this policy is important, visit the Denver Public Schools website.

What should students do with their PCDs?

PCDs should be turned off and kept out of sight while students are on campus during the school day. This includes during class time, passing periods, lunch periods, restroom breaks and field trips. PCDs should be stored in the classroom in a locked box. PCDs should not be stored in pockets.

How will PCDs be stored?

Students will be giving their phone to the classroom teacher when the bell rings.  Devices will not be available until the end of the school day.  The district is not responsible for lost, theft or destruction of PCDs on school property.

How can guardians communicate with their students?

Students will still be able to get in touch with parents, guardians, employers and others during the school day. In case of an emergency or need of communicating with your student please call the main office number at 720-424-2400.  View the FAQ for the policy (Google Doc), force.dpsk12.org/ or the DPS website for more information. If you have any questions, please contact the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Helpline at 720-423-3054 or facehelpline@dpsk12.net.

Thank you for your partnership in ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to develop and thrive in a distraction-free learning environment.
