Weekly Newsletter – August 14, 2020

Posted: Aug 20, 2020

Dear Force Families,

We hope you are staying cool and enjoying the last days of summer break! We will be using several avenues of communication this year to stay connected with our families; our weekly newsletter will provide you with important updates, specific school happenings and celebrations, School Messenger, which is directly linked to our school database will send schoolwide communication to you, please make sure we have your most current contact information to ensure you receive this communication. In addition, we will continue to use our Facebook platform and our Force website.

Registration is in full swing! It is extremely important that you register your child(ren). Information can be found here.  As of today, less than half of our students are registered.  This is how we receive funding and our school will be severely impacted if students are not registered.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How will Remote Learning look this fall?
Our goal is to mimic the regular school day as much as possible while being sensitive to the amount of time kids are spending online. Kindergarten through fifth grade schedules allow students to engage in live, daily lessons in the core content areas of literacy, language, and mathematics and to work independently on lessons in the other content areas. Teachers will be reaching out to all students to go over schedules and expectations.

How will we communicate and connect with families about Remote Learning?
The week of August 17th – 21st, your child’s teacher will contact you to personally share daily schedules, expectations, answer questions and most importantly to get to know your child before school begins.

How can you help your child now to prepare for Remote Learning?
Start to talk to your child about returning to school and how it will look this year.  Be positive and supportive and share what you know for certain for the beginning of the school year.  Your teachers and friends are excited to see you (even in a remote setting)!

Tips to prepare your child for online learning at home:

  • Create a learning space for your child.
  • Make a schedule and stick to it.
  • Reduce distractions.
  • Use a calendar and color-code it.
  • Get plenty of exercise, plan in snack times.

What is happening with ECE? If we don’t come in person, will we lose our spot?

DPS is working hard on being able to allow ECE students to return to school in person on September 8th.  We do not know if this will happen or not.  We also continue to work to get clarity on spots.  We want to hold spots for our families.  We am hoping for clear guidance on this within the week.

Important Dates:

  • Back to School Car Parade:  Thursday, August 20th from 5pm – 6pm- This will look much like the End-of-Year Car Parade. Cars will parade going north in front of the school. Teachers will all be out in front of the school. Please come and help us cheer in the new school year!
  • School Supply Distribution: Wednesday, August 19th – Friday, August 21st from 9-4pm. Please stay in your car and we will bring out your child’s supplies.
First Day of School:  Monday, August 24, 2020, online. Yay!!!

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we prepare to support our precious students during this unusual time. We look forward to working with you and your child this year.

Best always,

Val & Lorenza
